Inside the Scriptorium 1 - Inks, Paints & Quills is a new addition to the Evellum Scriptorium Series, focusing on how inks, paints, binders and quills were made in the Middle Ages. The DVD has an informative introduction and voiceover by Professor Bernard J Muir (University of Melbourne) and includes a description of the various stages of making inks and binders by David Coles, who manufactures artists' supplies in Melbourne for worldwide distribution. The filming includes fine close-ups of the artisans at work.

A bonus DVD of supplementary resources includes longer versions of the films, an illustrated glossary of technical terms, a gallery of dozens of original images by award-winning photographer David Paul (www.dpimages.net), pictures of the minerals and plants used to make inks and paints, and more. The medieval music played on various instruments in the background is performed by Ruth Wilkinson.
