The Making of a Medieval Manuscript

Writer / Director
    Bernard J. Muir
Video
    Terry Forrester

Release Date
    Late 2007

Format: DVD

This is a step-by-step demonstration of the making of a medieval manuscript. It is the first stage of a larger undertaking to produce a documentary film recreating and recording this complex process. The study of the transmission of texts in manuscript format and the culture of the book before the Age of Printing is central to a proper understanding of the intellectual life of the Middle Ages. This presentation is required viewing for anyone interested in the history of the book in the West.

Pre-publication sales are now available. The DVD is scheduled for release in early 2008. The TV-quality documentary film of approximately 40 minutes duration will be accompanied by a Powerpoint demonstration which can be used in teaching or as a supplement to the film -- it contains over 70 images recording various stages of the project, including some material not in the documentary. So far as possible, replica materials, tools, presses and other devices have been used.

Anyone ordering the DVD prior to its publication will receive a complimentary copy of a handsomely packaged PowerPoint demonstration of The Making of a Medieval Manuscript project.
