This work describes the materials and processes involved in the production of a medieval illuminated manuscript. It contains recipes for inks and paints, descriptions of how parchment was prepared for receiving both text and image, video clips of the making of paints, the preparation of quills for writing, and the different ways of ruling a manuscript. Medieval texts, both technical and poetic, relating to manuscript production are cited extensively. The recipes are illustrated with exquisite pictures of the various palnts and minerals used in making the paints and inks.
